Just like the rest of 2020, Labor Day will be a Holiday like no other, during a year like no other. Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.

On Monday, we have an opportunity to salute those who kept America running as a virus cast a cloud over the entirety of society. Many Local 509 members didn’t get to take time off during the early days of the pandemic; in fact, many of them worked overtime. For some Monday is yet another work day, but it is symbolic.

On this Labor Day, On behalf of The Local 509 Executive board, we would like to say we are  grateful for the Teamsters Local 509 Employees who have kept our economy moving throughout the course of the pandemic. No words or actions will ever be enough to thank you for everything that you’ve done, but please know that your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed or appreciated.

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that our members are working under more stress, during this time.  With this in mind we should each take a moment to reflect and on what we have achieved living and working in our great country.

Especially this Labor Day every laborer deserves appreciation.  Be motivated, stay determined and take a minute to pause, and say thank you to Local 509 members and to the other American workers who keep this nation running.
